Moving to the country requires you to be more self-reliant. With the nearest grocery store 12 miles away, and the nearest GOOD one 35 miles away, we have been looking an closer alternatives.
It just so happend that there is a great grass fed livestock farm four miles from our house. Afraid to committ to the whole enchilada, we went in with two other families on a pig. At the last minute, we also bought our very own lamb.
Peaceful Pastures explains why their meat is not "certified organic." They prefer to spend raising great meat, not on negotiating a cumbersome federal bureaucracy filled with looopholes and red tape. OK OK, they did not say it that way, but they do say that their animals are not given growth hormones and that they only feed them grass. Recent research indicates that eating grassfed meats is also better for you.
We are now discovering just how long a 1/3 of a pig and 1 whole lamb can last. It is a little overwhelming.

yea, the organic label is fairly meaningless. much more important to know where your food is coming from and how it's produced than for it to have some little logo on it...
also, we've been surprised at how *quickly* we've gone through our third a pig... we're down to our last roast, and though we have a bunch of chops left, one dinner party and they are history!
